LA-based trio Moonchild treat fans to yet another single from their forthcoming new album Starfruit. “Love I Need” feels like a vibrant celebration of love and features a hot 16 from GRAMMY-nominated rapper Rapsody.
The lively, horn-laden tune tells the tale of the transformation from a life of independence to one with an understanding and supportive partner. Both Amber Navran and Rapsody’s defining presence throughout the track make this canny collaboration ideal and fitting given its theme. Multi-instrumentalist and Moonchild member Andris Mattson shares, “I think my favorite moment happens halfway through Rapsody’s verse where the band breaks on beat one and comes back in with some hits that match Rapsody’s line."
“Love I Need” marks the fourth single from the trio’s fifth album, though fans will still have plenty to vibe to upon the full project’s release. Additional features include Tank and The Bangas, Ill Camille, Mumu Fresh, Chantae Cann and Josh Johnson. True to form, the album is shaping up to be a lush collection of masterful musicianship, thoughtful lyrics, relatable themes and dream collaborations.
