Childish Gambino Takes Us Back To The Juke Joint In ‘Little Foot Big Foot,’ Drops New Album ‘Atavista’ & Plans ‘The New World Tour’

It looks like Donald Glover is making good on his promises. The multi-talented performer is looking to close out his career under his Childish Gambino moniker with two final releases. The first up is Atavista, which is a finished and updated version of his 2020 album 3.15.20. He’s done some polishing on the four-year-old project to give it a new life — including revisiting production choices, giving each track a proper title instead of a timestamp and even adding a few new guests. He also has plans to give each track a visual, and he’s starting with “Little Foot Big Foot.”

The song formerly known as “35.31” (which we described as “a rollicking, down-home groove about moving weight”) gets a black-and-white clip inspired by the juke joint culture of the 1930s and ’40s. In it, Gambino stars as the frontman for a trio called Johnny And The Pipes. The group arrives at the out-of-the-way nightspot and finds a no-nonsense Quinta Brunson at the door. She leads the group to the stage while giving them the lay of the land. They then take the stage awkwardly before launching into song.

The twangy guitar, hand claps and Gambino’s vocal affectations sound like the era, but the fellas dance around the crowd with an energy that feels like Motown and leaves the audience unimpressed. They perform with smiles on their faces anyway until Gambino has an accidental altercation with a patron that leads to said patron lying on the floor after a gun goes off. The violent incident finally gets the crowd on the group’s side and Johnny And The Pipes finishes the performance to laughter and applause. An abrupt transition leads into the song’s other section, a more trap-happy portion that features Young Nudy — who appears as a giant watching over the joint.

There’s a lot more to come from Childish Gambino. In a social media post about Atavista, he let it be known that a vinyl version of the effort is coming along with visuals for each of the album’s tracks. He also noted that the alleged final Gambino album is set to arrive this summer. In addition, he’s also announced a massive world tour, which he’s dubbed The New World Tour, which will feature supporting acts WILLOW and Amaarae and kick off this August and span North America, Europe and Australia before wrapping up in February 2025.
