It’s the holiday season and major corporations are getting in the spirit with Christmas-themed ads. McDonald’s UK has a history of making feel-good ads that evoke emotion, and this year is no exception with this year’s edition “Imaginary Iggy” — which follows the relationship between a girl and her imaginary friend. In order to make sure that it hits all the emotional cues, the corporation tapped singer Mabel to provide the soundtrack with a cover of Cyndi Lauper‘s timeless classic “Time After Time.”
Mabel doesn’t reinvent the wheel with her cover, opting to sing to a simple piano arrangement that blooms until it’s eventually joined by strings as the sentimentality of the song increases. While Mabel’s vocal talent was never in question, her take on the song shows off her range and her ability to provide a heartfelt vocal. The singer also pulls at heartstrings further by including a parade of families in the song’s video. They all gather holding pictures of those that they love who are no longer with us as they celebrate their lives. Eventually, they all pose with a glowing light to symbolize the spirit of their loved ones. Excuse us while we bawl like babies.
