While some people who will remain unnamed seem to be unraveling right before our eyes on social media, singer Sinéad Harnett is making 2024 a year of healing. It seems she’s been logging some time in therapy as of late, and she’s ready to show us some of her revelations with her upcoming album Boundaries. And, if the set’s lead single "Say Something" is any indication, she’ll be offering some unique insights into who she is while exploring her artistry.
Sinéad turns to producer Jack Dine along with Aksel and Zach Ezzy to craft “Say Something.” They drench the song in acoustic guitar, shirking the use of all other instruments in order to let the slightly melancholy mood of the song be the main focus. Sinéad, meanwhile, gets poetic as she contemplates her yearning for freedom through the metaphor of a butterfly.
“I wait for you / At the window of my childhood house,” she sings in the opening verse. “I envied you / Free butterfly in the blue / Why won’t you / Say something, say something to me, oh?”
The sentiment is in line with what’s presented in the album trailer for Boundaries, which finds her glamorously dressed while sitting with her inner child among flowers and butterflies in an otherwise black void. As she and her younger self explore the space, we get a voiceover from Sinéad explaining how therapy helped her heal and inspired her latest project.
“There was one thing to all of this that allows this to happen. And that thing is boundaries,” she says. “Set them. Be so strict with them that you have enough time to take care of yourself and heal yourself.” The trailer then ends with her and her younger self fusing a broken, glowing heart back together (an image sure to be the album’s cover) as her voiceover exclaims, “Boundaries, baby!”
We’re very intrigued by a new Sinéad Harnett album, especially one that deals with sentiments not often explored in music. But, until she’s ready to reveal a release date, we guess we’ll have to wait in anticipation. You can get ready for Sinéad’s latest by listening to the stream of “Say Something” and watching the Boundaries album trailer below.
