Trey Songz visited the BET Awards 17 stage to lay his burdens down and simultaneously get some ladies face down, a** up. His two-song set started with his single “Nobody Else But You,” a song about giving up his playboy ways to realize true love. The performance started with Trey in the middle of a smoke-filled stage, dressed in a simple white shirt and black pants, singing his heart out. He was soon joined by a dancer who attempted to put that thang on Trey, whisking around the stage in passion and teasing Trey on a couch, before finally laying down at his feet as the song ended.
Trey’s performance of “Animal” was where the theatrics really started, though. The performance began with a harem of dancers, dressed in black leather and leopard print, walking up on stage out of the shadows. They displayed some moves out of Paula Abdul’s “Cold Hearted” video, as the ladies slinked around the stage in barely-there outfits, giving us that good strip club booty clapping and climbing up on some adult jungle gyms littered across the stage. Meanwhile, Trey, who traded his shirt for a leather trench coat with a fur lapel, walked the stage with his dancers clipping at his heels. The performance ended with the women surrounding Trey in the middle of the stage, booties tooted in subservience to the lord of the jungle.
As performances go, Trey's wasn’t bad. He was entertaining to watch even if his vocals had a hint of struggle. He gave us a sample of songs from his latest album, Tremaine The Album, along with seeing some women of all flavors gyrate across the stage. It was nothing revolutionary, but we know what we’re going to get with Trey at this point.
