Kelly Jones Invites Us Along For The Ride As She Tests Her New 'Wiiings'

When we first discovered Kelly Jones in late 2012, she introduced us to her unique mix of soul and synth dubbed “Electric Soul.” Since then, she’s been busy songwriting, touring, creating mixtapes, leading her band (Kolition, which won 2013 Best Hip Hop Group at the Artist in Music Awards) and even opening for the likes of Marsha Ambrosius. Jones likens her musical and personal journey to a metamorphosis -- hence the title of her upcoming debut album, …because caterpillars don’t have wings. With the release of the album's first single, “Wiiings,” she uses her soulful voice to give us a lyrical glimpse into her transformation. Simultaneously, the synth-laden melody and rhythmic percussion guarantee that you’ll be nodding your head from start to finish.

Now that she is ready to fly, it’s clear Ms. Jones is on a mission to cultivate our collective electric soul. In her own words, “Electric Soul aims to shine a piercing light into the darkness of contemporary music by intersecting it with the paths of lyric, melody, positive inspiration and a profound sense of purpose and togetherness.” Too lofty a goal? Perhaps…for a caterpillar.
