It’s Mariah Carey season! The Queen Of Christmas has been waiting all year to pop out, and, as she likes to say, it’s tiiiiiime! Her ubiquitous holiday hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is zooming back up the charts, and she is currently racking up the miles on her bedazzled sleigh on her Merry Christmas One And All! Tour. In addition to coming to a city near you in concert, she’s also making her rounds on TV and collecting numerous accolades along the way, including from The Jennifer Hudson Show as the latest superstar on Jennifer Hudson’s new Legend Series, which recently kicked off with Smokey Robinson.

JHud dedicated an entire hour to the artist whom she calls one of her favorite divas, an inspiration and a friend. Before Mariah hit the stage, Jennifer shared the story of when they first met while working together on The Voice and had her set redecorated on-air. The Jennifer Hudson Show’s elves rolled out Christmas trees, twinkling lights, fake snow and a reindeer or two to set a festive scene and make Mariah feel at home.

Carey’s appearance wasn’t all about Christmas, however. She was there for the Legend Series, and Hudson made sure to give her all her flowers. After a brief intro featuring a career retrospective, Mariah Carey tipped out from backstage in a dark purple sequined minidress that looked like she was ready for New Year’s Eve.

The conversation between Jennifer and Mariah started off as a lovefest between the two artists who genuinely admire each other. Mimi gave Jenny the scoop that she’s been in the studio writing new music, which elicited applause from the audience full of fans. She then shared a little about her songwriting process and how it’s changed over the years – from calling and leaving herself a voicemail message back in the day to now recording voice notes on her iPhone.

Mariah reminisced about being in beauty school when she was a high school student, and Jennifer asked her if she’d do her hair one day. JHud then took her down memory lane (in a segment that she dubbed “Melody Lane”) and she shared some behind-the-scenes tea from the “Heartbreaker” and “Dreamlover” video shoots.

The two stars bonded over their mutual love of Christmas, and Mariah even sang “It’s time!” She didn’t quite hit the big high note, but Jennifer hyped her up nonetheless. Carey then shared her favorite Christmas song and movie and discussed a few of her holiday traditions. JHud even asked her for some tips on making a Christmas album, which means we might be getting one from the EGOT in 2024.

As the episode wound down, Jennifer Hudson gave Mariah an early Christmas gift when she presented her with a blinged-out Legend Award before she left. Although the two singers didn’t sing together on the show, Jennifer made sure to ask her to sing a duet with her on her upcoming Christmas album, so stay tuned.
