It’s a great time to be a Little Brother fan. This year the group celebrated their 20th anniversary, launched the Made In Durham block party and dropped the blazing new singles “Wish Me Well” and “Glory Glory.” That’s not all that Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh have to share before 2023 ends. Their documentary, May The Lord Watch: The Little Brother Story, is completed and scheduled to premiere this Black Friday on YouTube.
Phonte and Pooh first announced the Little Brother documentary back in April 2022, and anticipation has been high ever since. They shared a first-look trailer at the time that was quite engrossing, and now the full project is almost here.
Described as “the definitive story of Little Brother,” May The Lord Watch will chronicle the rise, fall and rebirth of North Carolina’s underground legends. Although 9th Wonder left the group years ago, Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh resolved their differences, reunited and they are sharing a hip-hop story that needs to be told.
“This film is a love letter to our fans, a celebration of the people who made us and a testament to our core values of authenticity, ownership and craftsmanship,” Phonte stated in a press release. “It took us five years to complete this, and it finally feels right.”
The doc may have taken some years to complete, however, with this year not only commemorating 20 years of LB but also being the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop, it’s right on time.
Earlier this month, Little Brother hosted a series of May The Lord Watch screenings and discussions, and feedback has been universally positive about the film directed by Holland Randolph Gallagher. With such strong word of mouth and our admiration for Little Brother, we cannot wait to finally get the opportunity to watch this labor of love.
May The Lord Watch: The Little Brother Story will premiere on Little Brother’s YouTube channel on November 24th at 8 p.m. ET. Visit Little Brother’s website or the Southern Documentary Fund’s website to donate to the film.
