The last time we heard from Ty Dolla $ign on the solo tip, he was looking back on the year that was “2022.” Now the multifaceted singer, songwriter and producer is looking ahead to providing the soundtrack for Summer '23 with his new single “Motion.”
Co-written by Ty and co-produced by Stryv and Will Larsen, “Motion” is made with movement in mind. The thumping beat, shuffling percussion and piano stabs come together to form an uptempo groove reminiscent of acid house. The track beckons you to the dance floor, which is where Ty encourages you to stay and get lost in the music and the moment.
“Something takes hold now when we’re dancing / Bodies ’round us caught up in the wave / Sometimes it’s like playin’ ’round with magic / Let it take you, let it take you all the way,” Ty sings of the feeling when you’re on the dance floor and the music takes control of your body.
Director Alex Bittan captures that feel in the “Motion” video that takes us to a rave that is all the way live. Ty Dolla is at the center of all the action with bodies moving and grooving around him as the DJ spins. We even see him bust a smooth move under the disco ball and strobe lights, getting caught up just like everyone else.
“I had to give y’all something fun, something to dance to, something for the summertime! I’m just getting started,” Ty shared about his new jam in a press release.
“Motion” is the first piece of Ty Dolla $ign’s onslaught of music that is on the way. In an interview with Apple Music, he shared that he has an EP, a mixtape and two albums already recorded and in the can. “I’m ready, so now it’s about spacing it out and properly timing everything the right way,” he said about his release plans. “I’ll be dropping hella new music, and I’m excited for it.” Consider us excited, too.
