Muni Long attended this year's GRAMMY Awards as a spectator, but we fully expect her to attend next year as a nominee. If her hit single "Hrs And Hrs" doesn't get nominated for something, we're flipping tables first and asking questions later. The song is currently sitting in the Top 25 of Billboard's Hot 100, and this week it was also announced that "Hrs And Hrs" has been certified platinum by the RIAA.
That's the good news. The bad news is that Muni had to cancel her One Night Only Tour due to "unforeseen circumstances" beyond her control. Fans who had hoped to see their fave in concert will have to wait until the tour gets rescheduled. Thankfully, fans don't have to wait to see her sing live (on video at least) thanks to Genius' "Open Mic" series.
Genius regularly showcases popular R&B and hip-hop artists singing or rapping their songs on "Open Mic," and the mic is always on. That was certainly the case for Muni Long. After she sauntered onto the dark set illuminated by a neon OPEN sign and pink and purple neon lights behind her and on the floor, she took her place in front of the studio microphone and proceeded to sing down.
We've recently seen Muni perform "Hrs And Hrs" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and for an Amazon Original, but this performance right here tops them all. Although she's singing to a track, Long's live vocals are absolutely pristine. She commands the screen with her stage presence and straight-up sanging.
Watch Muni Long getting all the way live on "Open Mic" right here, and look out for her new single "Another" to drop on Tuesday, April 12th.
