Tinashe has had quite an exciting year, and it isn’t even at its halfway mark yet. Since January, she wrapped her BB/ANG3L Tour, released The BB/ANG3L EXPERIENCE performance film, performed a Tiny Desk Concert and just made her Coachella debut this past weekend. She’s also managed to do all this as a Black female, self-funded, independent R&B artist, which is no easy feat. The Tinashe takeover continues as she preps for the forthcoming release of QUANTUM BABY, part two of her BB/ANG3L album trilogy. Nashe is keeping her foot on our necks with the project’s scorching lead single “Nasty.”

The tenacious and tantalizing entertainer calls on Eric Frederic to co-write “Nasty” with her and producers Ricky Reed and Zack Sekoff who lace her with a hypnotic, uptempo groove to match the song’s sexy, sassy lyrics. Tinashe lures us into her web early, repeating the lyric, “I’ve been a nasty girl (nasty),” when the beat drops in to set the tone.

As the thumping track continues, Nashe makes it clear that she wants to get naughty with a lover who can keep her same energy. “Is somebody gonna match my freak? / Is somebody gonna match my freak? / Is somebody gonna match my nasty? / I got stamina, they say I’m a athlete / Is somebody gonna match my freak? / Need somebody with a good technique,” she talk-sings about her perfect match.

She takes us to the desert in the corresponding video directed by Jonah Haber. It opens with Tinashe working on a souped-up car in a barn when her homies pull up. While she saunters out to meet her friends, the scene cuts to futuristic fighter jets flying through the sky in search of the singer. Nasty Nashe makes sure to give whoever is coming for her an eyeful with her skimpy outfit and risque solo and group choreography.

She eventually hops in her whip and drives through the desert to confront the forces that are after her. As the jets zero in on her, Tinashe has a big surprise for them. The visual ends with the message “/2.B Continued” to let us know that there’s more to come. We get a glimpse at what’s on the way in the trailer for QUANTUM BABY, which depicts Tinashe still on the run.

Tinashe is turning up the heat right on time for spring and summer her latest banger. She makes being “Nasty” sound good and look even better. Listen to the track below and keep scrolling to watch the official music video, her performance of the song at Coachella 2024 and the QUANTUM BABY trailer.
