I had never heard the name Rukhsana Merrise until a promo email dropped into my inbox late on Monday night. Usually I tend to ignore such emails and deal with them the following morning, when I've powered up on several cups of coffee and deem myself to be in a suitable mental state to wade through the spam. I'm not entirely sure why I decided to open this email in particular, but my ears were happy with the decision once I had pressed play on "Light Up the Night," the first single from the London-based singers upcoming EP, Conversations With Becky. Borrowing MGMT's "Electric Feel" instrumental, Rukhsana has crafted a catchy, upbeat and soulful slice of electronic pop. No word on when the EP will drop yet, but we will certainly be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for more info.
