BeMyFiasco might be three years removed from her album Where I Left You, but the singer-songwriter has never left our memory since that powerhouse debut on +FE Music. And just when we were beginning to wonder when she would deliver something new, the “U And I” singer does just that with her latest single “Don’t Wanna Be Your Lover.”
“Don’t Wanna Be Your Lover” marks a milestone for BeMyFiasco as she joins Zo! and Tall Black Guy as one of the song’s producers. The trio creates quite the vibe, with the cut beginning with a thudding four-on-the-floor beat before spiraling into a melodic dance floor-filler that continues to swell with musical surprises as it counts down its four-minute runtime.
BeMyFiasco, meanwhile, puts on her dancing shoes while ruminating on heartbreak and her reluctance to give another love a try. “Caught up in a heartbreak / Stuck on how the way that things used to be / Gotta play the hard way / Wishin’ for a love that wasn’t meant for me,” she sings on the opening verse. Though she might be in the land of delusion, she still realizes that she must heal and ward off any suitors on the chorus, singing, “Don’t wanna be your lover / Not today and not tomorrow.”
We’re super excited to have new music from BeMyFiasco in our lives, but probably not more excited than she is. “This was the first time I got to bring not only a lyrical idea to life but a musical one as well,” she said in a press release. “The squad has been super supportive, and I love the freedom it gives me.”
