Black-owned concert promoter CD Enterprises, Inc.’s tagline is “Not Just Another Concert – But An Event!” That is certainly the case with their flagship event, the Summer Spirit Festival. Now in its sweet 16th year, the annual music festival has become a summertime tradition in the DMV like scorching hot temperatures and mosquitoes. After taking a break in 2023, Summer Spirit Festival 2024 is on and popping on Saturday, August 10th at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland with national and local acts ready to take the stage.
Summer Spirit Festival 2024 will once again welcome Erykah Badu as the day’s headliner. Badu is no stranger to SSF – she’s performed there and headlined more than any artist in the festival’s history. Her last appearance was at the 2022 Summer Spirit Festival, and now she’s back to share more of her Baduizm with attendees.
Also returning to the Summer Spirit Festival this year are Method Man & Redman. The dynamic duo were previously on the bill in 2022 and 2018. These hip-hop legends were so nice that they’ve been asked back thrice and will bring their high-energy show to the people.
This year’s Summer Spirit Festival is heavy on homegrown talent. Leading up to Badu, Meth and Red, the lineup will showcase go-go, soul and hip-hop from a few of the DMV’s finest. Go-go will dominate the day with Junkyard Band, Backyard Band and Chuck Brown Band all returning to the schedule. Rounding things out are singer/rapper Mumu Fresh and up-and-coming rapper Noochie who has made his mark with his Live From The Front Porch concert series. Rare Essence’s Jas Funk will also be back in the mix as the festival’s emcee.
Summer Spirit Festival 2024 is on track to be quite a time for DMV music heads. Make plans to attend this August and secure tickets online via Ticketmaster or offline at the Merriweather Post Pavilion box office.
