When it comes to R&B, Kenyon Dixon is that dude. (One of his nicknames is R&B Kenny for goodness sake.) He goes hard for the genre in his musings, which he routinely shares on social media, and in his music, which he’s been filling our playlists with for years. Dixon is ready to give us even more feel-good R&B with his announcement of his new album, aptly titled The R&B You Love.

Kenyon has been using the hashtag #TheRnBYouLove for a good while as part of his branding, so it’s a smart move for him to employ the phrase on his next project. He shared The R&B You Love’s artwork with the album news and the cover includes a special message.

“I’ve been on a mission to make people demand & expect more from modern R&B. It’s such a sacred genre & deserves the best representation all around,” Kenny wrote from the heart. “From the studio to your speakers to the stage. I hope this album makes you fall back in love with R&B. Cheers to the R&B you love.” We’ll drink to that!

The 17-track collection follows his stellar 2022 album Closer and its deluxe edition, which was also released last year. Dixon introduced this new LP with the singles “Slow Dancing” with Kincy, “Slow Dancing (Remix)” featuring Kevin Ross, “Lucky” and his latest, “’98 Vibes (Do You Right)” reuniting him with Tiffany Gouché.

On “’98 Vibes (Do You Right),” Kenyon and Tiffany want to give their respective boo thangs some loving straight outta 1998. If you recall, that was a banner year for R&B with releases from Whitney Houston, Faith Evans, Brandy, Monica, Mya, Maxwell, Dru Hill, Tyrese and so many more. The singers who previously collaborated on Closer lead single “Love On Replay,” hit on all those nostalgic notes while keeping it modern.

Kenny begins the song with its hook, and he gets straight to the point. “I just wanna dive in it / Run away hide in it / Give it to you nice and slow / Take my time in it thrive in it,” he sings and lets his woman know that he can back up every single word. The rest of the song follows that energy and teeters somewhere between a bop and a slow jam, lending itself to a kickback, sexy dance challenge or rolling around between the sheets.

The visual for “’98 Vibes (Do You Right)” goes in the kickback direction and takes viewers to R&B Kenny’s Freaknik, filmed on location in Los Angeles during his actual birthday celebration in July. Kenyon is seen partying and vibing with his guests, which include Gouché, her cousin D Smoke and Amber Riley, and everyone is having quite a time.

We expect more good music, good vibes and good times to be had when Kenyon Dixon’s The R&B You Love drops. The album is coming at us fast, with a release date of Friday, September 29th on the books. Pre-save/pre-order it now from select digital music platforms.
