When was the last time you slow danced with someone to some R&B? If you had to think for a long time, that’s the wrong answer. In a world of viral dance challenges to seconds-long song snippets, two people slow dancing together to a little soulful mood music seems to be a lost art. Leave it to Kenyon Dixon to craft a new song entitled “Slow Dancing” that reminds us of what we’ve been missing in our lives and music collections.

R&B Kenny teams with Kincy (the artist also known as Marcus Kincy) on “Slow Dancing.” Produced by Chris Blakk and Marqus Curtis, the collaboration sounds like a mashup of the best of ’80s and ’90s R&B when the genre was king as each fella sings to his queen.

The sound bed of heavy synths, drum machine and talk box backgrounds by Kincy gives ’80s vibes that would make Roger Troutman of Zapp proud. Kenyon, meanwhile, brings the ’90s R&B vocals with a modern cadence as he looks forward to spending some alone time with his boo thang. Her body is calling, and he’s got the answer right there in his arms. He wraps her in a warm embrace, and together they find a rhythm and catch a groove to a little Anita Baker.

“When we’re slow dancing / You and me, R&B / Oh, ain’t it so romantic,” Dixon croons on the enticing chorus. “The energy when we be in the mood / Then we go into a groove or two / When I get alone with you / And we’re slow dancing / Slow dancing, slow.”

Kincy comes through on the bridge with more talk box vocals that channel the late great Troutman and classic Zapp records like “Computer Love” and “I Want To Be Your Man.” He is as focused as Kenny as he sings, “Hey, lady / The way you dancing on me / Girl, I gotta take my time / Take my time.” And trust and believe a time will be had!

“‘Slow Dancing’ is an ode to the R&B we love,” Kenyon said about the single in a press release. “The record touches on not fighting the feeling of your body wanting to move – especially in intimate spaces.”
