It’s time for Keyshia Cole’s story to be told, and she’s doing it her way with the help of Lifetime. Her made-for-TV biopic Keyshia Cole: This Is My Story is scheduled to premiere on the network later this month as a part of their Black Music Month programming. After announcing the film in March, we’re finally getting a first look at it with its official trailer.

Cole, who not only serves as executive producer but stars in the biopic as herself, introduces and narrates the trailer. “As a young girl, I’ve survived so many different situations,” she says while scenes from the movie play. We watch the drama unfold early with young Keyshia Cole getting thrown out of her adoptive parents’ home. She reunites with her bio mother Frankie Lons, played by Debbi Morgan, who shares some sage advice with her daughter but has little else to give her as she battles drug addiction.

This movie is Keyshia’s story, but it is partially Frankie’s story, too. “After my mom passed, I wanted to do something to show my love,” Cole continues with her narration as she appears on screen in her acting debut. We see some of the glitz and glamour from the superstar’s life as a recording artist, but central to this film is the relationship between mother and daughter, which was Cole’s goal.

“This is a story of a daughter’s love for her mother, and although my heart remains broken from her untimely passing, I am honored to be sharing it with the world,” she stated in a press release.

The trailer ends with a few additional clips from the film and Keyshia including a closing message. “This movie tells my story, and I wouldn’t trust to tell it anywhere else besides Lifetime,” she shares.

Keyshia Cole: This Is My Story looks like it’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster. Have your box of tissues ready for when the biopic premieres on Lifetime on Saturday, June 24th at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT.
