It’s been nearly a year since we’ve received something new from singer-songwriter Otis Kane in the form of his single “Free.” But after delivering several singles, EPs and an album over the past three years, we’d say it was a well-deserved break for the rising star. He’s not letting any grass grow under his feet, however, as he returns to the scene with his latest “Good Life,” a duet with fellow rising star CLAY.
While not a remake of the beloved Inner City cut of the same name (sorry, we just wanted an excuse to link that particular jam), the two songs share a similar sentiment. Otis makes his soulful case for love. Twinkly keys and shuffling drums are the name of the game here as they provide the base for the twosome’s sweet vocals. Otis and his falsetto take the opening verse as he describes a love that feeds his soul. CLAY, meanwhile, comments on the safety that she feels in the arms of her lover and just how beautiful that is.
It’s the chorus where everything is crystallized, though, as the two keep it short and sweet. “In this good life / Baby, it’s a good life,” they sing on repeat while making the listener wish they were radiating in the love the two are emoting.
The song’s video captures that vibe but gives the affair an unexpected twist. In a typical video, the two would simply play each other’s love interest. That doesn’t happen here, though. Instead, we see Otis paired with his own curly-haired cutie for the clip’s first half as we watch them stand back to back while looking blissfully in love. CLAY also gets her own lovely leading lady to snuggle up against for her verse, making this jam even more special as it welcomes all into the fold to feel the love vibes.
Otis Kane has hit the sweet spot once again as he and CLAY have undeniable chemistry — and by adding a bit of inclusiveness into the mix surely doesn’t hurt. Check out a stream of “Good Life” and the song’s video when you head below.
