Viewers who tuned in to The Jennifer Hudson Show on Wednesday, March 22nd were seeing double when Coco Jones paid a visit. The R&B starlet and Bel-Air actress looked like a bombshell dressed in a strappy red dress and matching coat, but that wasn’t the only thing she resembled. Once she sat down to chat it up with Jennifer Hudson, the first words out of JHud’s mouth were “Do we look alike to y’all?” to which the audience responded with an emphatic chorus of yesses.
In case you never noticed before, the resemblance between the two singers/actresses is uncanny. Jennifer and Coco went on to share how they get mistaken for each other all the time, and they both embrace it.
JHud mentioned that people have asked her who she’d want to play her in a biopic and that Coco’s name has come up. That was all that the rising star needed to hear. “Stop playing with me! I’m ready!” Jones said and used that as an opportunity to show love to the EGOT. “Honestly, I take it as such a compliment cause you know you have been so impactful in my life. Just watching you, another beautiful dark-skinned Black woman just killing it. That’s my motivation.”
Later in the episode, the conversation turned from acting to music, and Coco lit up as she discussed her single “ICU” from her impressive debut project What I Didn’t Tell You. Having evolved from a child star being told what to do to now a 25-year-old woman coming into her own and calling the shots has given her a unique perspective. “Honestly, it really is like me just kind of taking that leap and really baring my soul,” she shared. “I had to find my own voice. ‘ICU’ is just me baring my soul on a track.”
The songstress didn’t just talk about “ICU,” the statuesque beauty performed the track in its television debut. Coco commanded everyone’s attention not only with her stage presence but with her live vocals. There was no mistaking that her mic was on, and she was singing for real and from her soul.
Coco Jones is the real deal, and hopefully, this isn’t the last time we see her perform “ICU” on network television. We also look forward to the day we hear that she’s cast in The Jennifer Hudson Story. Until then, watch her shine on The Jennifer Hudson Show below.
