Marsha Ambrosius has heard all the chatter and seen all the comments. Her vocal fanbase has had a lot to say about the extended wait for a new album from their fave. Thankfully, that wait is about to come to an end with Marsha’s first new album in six years, the highly anticipated set CASABLANCO, which now has an official release date and cover art.
The Songstress made light of the online commentary and long wait for the project in a promo video posted to her socials. Marsha is seen scrolling through her timeline on her cellphone and reading everyone’s opinions – some supportive but mostly shady. While she’s scrolling, Dr. Dre is heard saying, “We gon finish this f**king album one day!” in a voiceover. She then receives a couple of texts from him that read, “Marsha we locked in. 6/28 #aftermath.” Marsha perks up after reading his messages, and talks to her reflection in the mirror, saying, “CASABLANCO, it’s time.”
It is time, indeed, with CASABLANCO on the calendar for Friday, June 28th, adding to an abundance of Black Music Month releases. The project will be released on Aftermath Records/Interscope Records and features a total of 11 tracks led by the singles “The Greatest” and “One Night Stand.”
The album cover is revealed at the end of Marsha’s video and shows an ornate gold picture frame against a black background. However, instead of a photograph of the lovely singer in the frame, we get a text-based design with the album title in a vintage font. There is a keyhole at the bottom of the frame that we’re guessing the golden key on a CASABLANCO keychain seen on the “One Night Stand” cover art fits. Ambrosius is also seen wearing a necklace with the same keychain and key as a pendant in the promo visual.
CASABLANCO is Marsha’s fourth solo album following her debut Late Nights & Early Mornings, Friends & Lovers and NYLA. She’s had a strong body of work thus far, and we suspect that CASABLANCO will add to her winning track record based on what we’ve heard thus far.
