J. Valentine is steadily releasing singles from his forthcoming solo debut album on R&B Money. He introduced Conversations With Women with the track “Thank Me For That,” and he follows it up with the song “Before The Streets.”
The singer-songwriter-producer has his eye and heart set on a woman whom he feels the need to save from herself on “Before The Streets.” Valentine takes it upon himself to be her safe space from whatever she’s going through and makes sure that she knows that throughout the slow jam.
“Hope it ain’t too late / Too late for me to save you from your old ways,” J. sings on the first verse. He is a man on a sincere mission to keep this good girl from going bad. “I gotta get to you / Get to you before the streets do,” he croons on the chorus.
For the “Before The Streets” visual, the director TAJ is back behind the camera and actress Shalise Fernander is back in front of it playing J.’s love interest. Instead of playing the one that got away from him as she did in the video for “Thank Me For That,” Fernander fills the role of the one that he’s trying to get with here.
They meet at their mutual friends’ engagement dinner, and Valentine is instantly smitten. But before he can seal the deal, she has to leave the function. J. asks his homie what’s up with her, and he finds out a little too much when his friend pulls up her scandalous page on an Only Fans-like app. Curiosity gets the best of him and the remainder of the clip shows him watching her demon time videos while the scenes of them earlier at the gathering replay in his mind. He looks a little torn between what he’s watching versus what he’s feeling.
J. Valentine already had our attention as co-host with Tank of the consistently entertaining and informative podcast R&B Money, and he’s keeping with his original music. Listen to “Before The Streets” and watch its video below, and stay tuned for more from the talented Mr. Valentine.
