Adam Blackstone Brings ‘A Legacy Christmas’ To ‘The Tonight Show’ With ‘Lil Drummer Boy’ Performance Featuring Kenyon Dixon

Adam Blackstone has been in demand this holiday season. The two-time GRAMMY-nominated music director is booked and busy promoting his latest album A Legacy Christmas. The project has been a highlight of this year’s crop of new Christmas music, and he’s gotten some great looks. A few weeks ago he accompanied Keke Palmer on NBC’S Christmas In Rockefeller Center special to perform A Legacy Christmas’ lead single “Christmas Kisses.” This week he went from prime time to late night with a performance of “Lil Drummer Boy” featuring Kenyon Dixon on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

R&B Kenny wasn’t Adam’s only featured guest. Blackstone had two of the most adorable, real-life little drummer boys – nine-year-old phenom Justin Wilson II and his eight-year-old son Adam Blackstone Jr. – on stage playing with the band. They kicked the performance off by playing their snares and giving us cuteness overload. The celebrity bassist then greeted the audience with a brief introduction before taking the spotlight to play “Lil Drummer Boy” on the bass.

The first third of the performance was mostly instrumental before Kenyon emerged from the audience with his mic in hand. On the album, Blackstone enlisted BJ The Chicago Kid on “Lil Drummer Boy,” and Dixon stepped into his role nicely adding his own R&B Kenny flavor. Adam and Kenyon did what they do best, but, to be honest, Justin and Junior stole the show.

If you’re looking for more holiday jams where this came from, you’ll find them on Adam Blackstone’s A Legacy Christmas. The 10-song album features familiar standards such as “Oh Come Let Us Adore Him” and “Away In A Manger” and original songs like the lead single, “Brother J (Holiday)” with DJ Jazzy Jeff and Kaidi Tatham and “Greatest Gift” featuring Boyz II Men’s melodies from heaven.
