Ryan Leslie is spinning the block back onto our playlists with his brand-new single “Run It Back.” The singer, songwriter, producer and entrepreneur wants to rekindle an old flame, and he makes a convincing case as he tries to get his “Diamond Girl” to fall in love again.

“Run It Back” begins with its chorus where he offers an apology and hopeful lyrics. “Baby, I never meant to do you like that / Maybe we should it back? / We did some things I know we probably regret / So, maybe we should it back? / You know I never meant to hurt you, no / Maybe we should it back? / Got some issues we gotta work through / So, maybe we should it back?” he sings, his words dripping with sincerity. He sounds like a man who’s done the work and is ready to put in work to make it last forever the second time around.

The song straddles the fence between a ballad and a bop. The heartfelt lyrics feel like a ballad while the instrumentation with synths, trap drums and electronic elements has a little bounce to it. “Run It Back” sounds like vintage Ryan Leslie.

RLes plans to have a big 2024. “Run It Back” is the debut single from his soon-to-be-released EP You Know My Speed. The project will arrive as he celebrates the 15th anniversary of his first two albums, Ryan Leslie and Transition, both of which were released in 2009. The multihyphenate is also returning to the stage on his You Know My Speed European Tour 2024.
