As he continues to reintroduce himself, the artist formerly known as Problem gifts fans with a bop that is sure to send us all straight to the dance floor. Now going by his given name JasonMartin, the Compton-bred rapper teams up with R&B money-maker Tank on the Kaytranada-produced track “DON’T STOP (BABY, BABY) 2222.”
Over Kaytra’s infectious groove, Jason and Tank issue lightweight warnings to the siren who entices them with her dance moves. Before the beat drops, in his signature lusty tone Tank declares his delight and begs, “Whatever you do, please don’t stop.” In turn, Jason effortlessly rides the beat and makes his intentions quite clear noting, “Look at me like that and I might bite back / Swimmin’ in the waters, I won’t need me a lifejack / Hit me with a follow, Imma follow it right back / Drop it and wobble it, wobble it like that.”
As such a vibrant track requires an equally entrancing visual to match, JasonMartin enlists the talents of viral dancer and “Queen of the Dougie” Storm DeBarge. Against a darkened backdrop and neon lighting, Storm and her girls are the true stars of the show, as they nearly hypnotize viewers with their dance moves on set and in the back of a flatbed truck. Though everything from the styling to the camera angles gives energy reminiscent of the late ’90s/early 2000s, the video still manages to match the futuristic vibes of Kaytra’s track flawlessly.
We have no “problem” with this new wave JasonMartin is on. We’re excited to hear and see more on his album A Compton Story and its companion film. He’s releasing the 30-track album in two parts – dropping the first 15 songs today (November 3rd) and the second set of 15 songs on November 17th. The accompanying short film, also named A Compton Story, co-stars Jason alongside Snoop Dogg, Mike Epps, Slink Johnson and Jackie Long and is currently showing on Tubi.
