Tinashe Sets Her Standards With ‘Talk To Me Nice’

It’s a new album era for our girl Tinashe. The singer last graced us with an album back in 2021 when she dropped her genre-defying 333 (which she then followed up with a deluxe edition the following year). Now she’s readying her new album, BB/ANG3L, for release to the masses, and she’s introducing it with her new single “Talk To Me Nice.”

Tinashe has never been a stickler for genre, and she doesn’t bother to start now. “Talk To Me Nice,” which is co-produced by Nosaj Thing and Scoop DeVille, is a genre-hopping cut that combines elements of electronic, R&B and pop into a sound that’s uniquely ’Nashe. The track glitches, skips, pops and repeats over a foundation of warm synth chords, synth bass and skittering programmed drums.

Tinashe, meanwhile, has love in mind and sex on the brain as she makes a few requests and demands for someone trying to get with her. While the verses spend their time telling you exactly how you should romance her in public and between the sheets, it’s the chorus where she truly breaks it down.

“Mix up my days, got me in a daze / Stuck in a phase, so talk to me nice,” she sings. “Come get me laid, sing me lullabies, yeah / Come drive me craze ’fore I catch a flight.”

She takes the trippy vibes of the song straight into the video, where she shirks her usually dance-heavy production for weird and glitchy visuals. Our first glimpse of her is in an upside-down photo of herself. Once we see the real Tinashe, though, she continues to play around with her visage, including peeling it away to reveal her fresh skin underneath, distorting it through refraction in water glasses and working in digital glitching that sweeps randomly across the screen. What does it all mean? She doesn’t really explain before water suddenly starts pouring down to wash us away to the video’s eventual conclusion.

The new era of Tinashe is starting off in quite an interesting way, and we can’t wait to see what she’s bringing this time around. Allow her to usher you into it when you stream “Talk To Me Nice” and watch its video below.
