DUCKWRTH came through like a wrecking ball with his 2022 effort Chrome Bull and had us dancing to his groove. Since then, he’s popped up on the periphery with guest spots on quite a few songs, including his recent collaboration with Jordan Hawkins. The rapper/singer isn’t one to stay out of the spotlight for long, however, and he’s back with double single “Big Bewts” and “Vertigo.”

The first track up is “Big Bewts,” which continues his tradition of connecting dance music and hip-hop. This time around, he’s going mostly electronic with a shuffling beat set against synth and gritty electric guitar, giving the song a slightly unpolished feel. His rhymes are on point, as he flips poetic about his life and times while creating the ultimate party atmosphere.

“Tick, tick, tock / Time don’t stop for nobody / Put these big boots on / Stepping strong / Only in the lobby,” he rhymes on the chorus. “Where we going / We steppin’ out / What you heard about? / That’s word of mouth.”

“Vertigo” gets even more experimental. It builds upon distorted, buzzing synths and a four-on-the-floor kick drum that disorients as he flits between spoken word verses, singing and rapping.

“Vertigo all disoriented / So I wear these shades / ‘Cause it’s easier when the world is tinted / Dark,” he says at the song’s start. “Equilibrium is vanity / Pleasure is a privilege / Where...is my sanity?” Think of it as the aftermath of him stepping into the club in ”Big Bewts” as the night spins just a little out of his control.

Speaking of the club, that’s where DUCKWRTH takes us in the video for “Big Bewts.” The clip finds him flossing in a club while debuting a very different new haircut and sporting fly threads. The night seems to be going quite well, though it seems that his two sides are having a communication problem. His good time is soon interrupted by a message that brings him outside to witness his motorcycle ablaze on the street, and we’re met with the dreaded “to be continued” message.

DUCKWRTH’s obviously got something up his sleeve, and we’ll just have to wait and see what that is. In the meantime, stream “Big Bewts” and “Vertigo” right here and then hop below to watch the “Big Bewts” video.
