AMAKA, the artist formerly known as Jessica Nwokike of the duo VanJess, has already made a splash as a solo act. Her singles “Cruisin’” and “Leave It Behind” have served as a groovy introduction to what she’s bringing to the dance floor on the Kaytranada-produced jams. Now AMAKA is ready to make her next music move on her debut EP OASIS.
The singer-songwriter made the announcement on her socials, sharing the EP’s striking cover art and its release date. On the cover, AMAKA is giving fashion model fierceness, serving face and showing us that thick thighs save lives. She needs no help standing out in a black strapless swimsuit, but she really pops out against the white background in the shot taken by photographer Obidi Nzeribe.
AMAKA isn’t keeping people waiting for OASIS, with the project due to drop on Friday, July 28th. Her singles will find a home on the EP, but she hasn’t shared the full tracklist yet. However, she has revealed something truly exciting about OASIS – all songs will be produced by Kaytranada.
The in-demand producer has been a busy man this year, performing killer sets at Coachella, dropping his Aminé collaboration KAYTRAMINÉ and prepping for the upcoming KAYTRAMINÉ tour. We don’t know where he found the time to produce AMAKA’s EP, but we’re happy that he did.
After the shocking dissolution of VanJess earlier this year, AMAKA has softened the blow with her solo endeavor. She’s in the driver’s seat now, and we can’t wait to see where she takes us with OASIS. The EP is currently available to pre-save on digital streaming services before it’s released next Friday.
