The 2023 ESSENCE Festival Of Culture has been revealing the artists who’ll be performing in waves, and they’ve finally unveiled the last additions to the talent lineup scheduled to perform between June 30th through July 2nd in New Orleans. With Missy Elliott, Ms. Lauryn Hill and Megan Thee Stallion already booked to headline the Superdome Evening Concert Series, we didn’t think that the lineup could get any more lit, but festival organizers said “Watch this!” like their name was Usher.
This year’s ESSENCE Fest will be an epic 50th birthday party for hip-hop, but don’t sleep on the R&B artists who’ll be there and bringing their good singing. Look no further than new additions Jill Scott and Ari Lennox who’ll be joining their previously announced sistas in song Monica, Muni Long, Coco Jones and Tems. Also added to the roster and representing for the men of R&B will be Jagged Edge.
On the hip-hop side of things, it’s gotten even more heavy with hitters and spitters. In addition to curations by Doug E. Fresh and Jermaine Dupri, there’ll be a West Coast All-Stars set featuring Ice Cube, E-40, Ice-T, JJ Fad, DJ Quik, Lady Of Rage and Yo-Yo.
Radio veteran Angie Martinez has been enlisted to host a curation entitled In Real Life: 50 Years Of Women In Hip-Hop. This set will showcase legendary women such as Eve, Mia X, Remy Ma, Salt-N-Pepa and Trina.
Believe it or not, that’s not even all that this year’s ESSENCE FOC has in store. Rapper Tobe Nwigwe has been tapped to perform, and the word “MORE!” on the flyer lets us know that there’ll be surprises galore.
