Tamika Scott may be the last member of Xscape to set it off on the solo tip, but she’s coming in first place when it comes to her new single “Tonight.” The song not only features a verse from hip-hop heartthrob Method Man, but it pulls from classics by both Nas and Phil Collins. That’s a winning combination any way you look at it, and now we get to see Tamika’s vision for the track come to life in its music video.
Directed by Picture Perfect, the visual for “Tonight” begins with a little drama. Tamika and her lawyer are seated across from her soon-to-be ex-husband and his lawyer in a boardroom. They’re all going over the divorce settlement, and Tamika’s lawyer makes sure that she gets everything that she deserves in the split. Her ex has an angry outburst, but she’s unbothered by his antics and is now drama-free.
Tamika isn’t sugar-free, however. We see her return home to the arms of her new man, played by Method Man. When they’re not getting cozy in front of a raging fireplace and creating their own sparks, Tamika and Meth are seen performing the song on a rooftop overlooking the city. The two artists have great chemistry and light up the screen in all of their scenes together like fireworks.
Throughout the clip we see Tamika rocking a few stylish looks as she gets ready to celebrate her newfound freedom. She takes her divorce party to a nightclub where she gets it poppin’ with her people who embody the lyric, “We gon’ get it in ’til the party ends.”
