Babyface announced back in February that he was joining the Vegas residency ranks with his upcoming Babyface: Live In Las Vegas shows. Weeks before its start in late May, the iconic hitmaker gifts fans with a cinematic trailer to promote his residency on the grand occasion of his 65th birthday.
The legend born Kenneth Edmonds began his special day by sharing the slick video to his socials. If the promo looks and sounds a little familiar, that’s because it was inspired by Nicole Kidman’s 2021 commercial for AMC Theatres. Instead of strolling into a movie theater, though, a pinstripe suited-and-booted Babyface struts into the future site of his residency, the Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms Casino Resort Las Vegas.
“We come to this place for magic. We go to the concerts to love, to cry, to care because we need that. All of us,” Face speaks via a voiceover as the camera follows him into the venue. He walks past rows of empty seats before he settles into his plush seat and proceeds with his persuasive message about the power of attending a concert.
“That indescribable feeling we get when the lights begin to dim, and we go somewhere that reminds us where we’ve been before. Not just entertained, but somehow, we time travel together,” he continues with a little extra bass in his voice while watching videos of himself performing live. “Dazzling images on a huge, lit up stage. Sound that you can feel. Somehow, heartbreak feels good in a place like this. Our heroes feel like the best part of us. The songs and the stories feel perfect and powerful because here? They are. I’ll see you in Vegas. Let’s time travel together.”
Babyface is inviting music lovers to join him on a career-spanning trip through his massive catalog of music. He will take people back in time all the way to current day with his solo hits and those that he’s written and/or produced for other artists over the years.
