Jessie Reyez released her latest album YESSIE last September, but she isn’t on to the next just yet. Just like she’s focused on an ex in her song “STILL C U,” the singer-songwriter circles the block on the project with a music video for the track.
Instead of playing up the relationship theme of “STILL C U,” Jessie avoids all of the typical video tropes and takes us with her on a solo vacation to paradise. Hawaii is the idyllic setting, which she described on Instagram as, “one of my new favorite places on earth.” The island views are indeed stunning, but Jessie is also serving unique beauty and natural body in the clip, letting her ex know exactly what he’s missing.
Directors Dane Collison and Philip Harris capture Reyez frolicking on the beach, swimming in crystal clear waters, lounging on a palm tree, singing in front of a waterfall and otherwise enjoying the tropical scene from sunrise til sunset. At the video’s end, the view switches to a home movie-like recording of the sun setting over the water with Jessie singing a brand-new tune.
If the “STILL C U” audio for the video sounds a little different from the YESSIE album version, that’s because she used the live audio from her performance of the song on The Tonight Show earlier this year. The usage of the live recording gives the slick visual a more raw feel to match her heartbroken lyrics.
