Wondaland Records represented properly during the BET Awards weekend this year. Janelle Monáe, Jidenna and the rest of the crew made several appearances throughout the weekend at the BET Experience, include Janelle's Genius Talk with her soul sister Erykah Badu and a free performance during the Fan Fest.
But it seems that the Janelle and Jidenna saved the big moment for the main show. Dressed in another twist on her signature black-and-white, Janelle took the stage first and flexed her "Yoga" with her troupe of masked dancers behind her. Though she started off a little shaky vocally, the Electric Lady electrified as she levitated above her throne, sang her little heart out and then moonwalked and really cut loose with a few dance moves we didn't know she had in her.
Jidenna, on the other hand, took a more dapper approach. Always the "Classic Man," the rapper was dressed to the nines as he strolled across the stage giving the crowd a taste of his mid-20th century gentleman swag. Soon, he was joined by a crowd of black men from all walks of life sporting signs that referenced the song's chorus and were a nod to the "I Am A Man" movement during the Civil Rights era. Eventually Janelle and her ladies came back on the stage to party with Jidenna and his gentlemen, with the two meeting in the middle before triumphantly signing off with a Wondaland salute.
It was quite the spectacle and an awesome promotion for the Wondaland collective's upcoming EP, The Eephus. Watch the twosome represent for their Wondaland clique below.
