Texas-bred pianist/composer Jason Moran and singer/bassist Meshell Ndegeocello have coupled up for a musical ode to jazz legend Fats Waller on the upcoming album, All Rise: A Joyful Elegy for Fats Waller. The first listen from the project is the single "Ain't Misbehavin'," where we find Moran and Ndegeocello showing off their skills to bring the 1943 ditty into 2014. The track features a playful melange of horns, keys, drums and more live instrumentation interacting to create a jazzy walk in the park. Ndegeocello sings sweetly to give the song a feminine touch, which woos you to keep listening.

Moran and Ndegeocello describe their tribute album as a "modern dance party," and, based on "Ain't Misbehavin'," we won't refute it. All Rise: A Joyful Elegy for Fats Waller, produced by Ndegeocello and Blue Note Records president Don Was, debuts on September 16th. You can download and listen to "Ain't Misbehavin'" via SoundCloud and then act accordingly by pre-ordering their upcoming album on iTunes and Amazon. [H/T: TR]
