Ledisi shook us up when she released her single “Anything For You” earlier this year. Not only did she give us a soulful throwback, but we also knew the song was a symbol of great things to come, namely a new album. The songstress soon came through with the announcement of a new project, The Wild Card. She's already dropped the second single "Where I Am" for our listening pleasure, but now she’s blessing us with another version of "Anything For You," turning the bluesy ballad into a soaring duet with the one and only PJ Morton.
Production-wise, the original track remains intact with the same lush guitar licks, drums and piano, while Ledisi starts us off with her soul-drenched vocals on the familiar first verse. The change-up comes with the addition of PJ takes on the second verse. He adds his own magic as he asks, “What did I do to deserve someone as special as you?” As the two sing their parts, harmonize and trade ad-libs, the sweet ballad turns into almost a competition between lovers to see who can love the other more, with Ledisi boasting, “You will never know how far my love will go.”
Now, this is a duet. We already loved "Anything For You," but this collaboration with PJ Morton has taken it to another level of adoration. We have our fingers crossed that both versions of this track turn up on Ledisi’s upcoming album The Wild Card due out August 28th.
