2020 might be a crap shoot of a year, but it has been delivering on one of its promises: the music. This year has seen some major releases and unexpected returns from our faves. Included in that group, of course, is the one and only Ledisi. She's gearing up to give us another soulful journey with the release of her upcoming album The Wild Card this August. As the album becomes available for pre-order this week, she's also offering another listen from the set with sassy new single "Where I Am."
Ledisi looks to Ivan Barias and songwriter Kristal "Tytewriter" Oliver to help her out on this joint and the two lace her lovely with a jam about knowing your worth. Led (who is very happily married, by the way) plays the role of a woman being chased by a potential suitor. While she thinks it cute that he's interested, in order to get with a lady like her he needs to be on her level. "Meet me where I am / You see where I am / So catch me if you can," she sings. "'Cause you need what I am / They can't be where I am / So catch me if you can." Helping with her lesson of the day is Barias' smooth production, which bops along gingerly with warm Rhodes chords and a shuffling drum pattern that fits perfectly with the hazy days of summer. And, as always, Ledisi sounds absolutely amazing even with a mostly subdued vocal performance.
We're sure there are more gems to come from The Wild Card and we are anxiously anticipating its release on August 28th. While you wait, you can listen to "Where I Am" below. Better still, if you pre-order the album now, you'll get an instant download of the track to enjoy as you please.
