iyla stepped back on the scene earlier this year when she dropped her single "Sad B***h Bad B***h" back in April. We anticipated that the songstress had more new music in her arsenal, and she's proving us right with the release of her latest track "2LATE."
iyla works with frequent collaborator Kadis once again, and he once again laces her with a skittering, stuttering, hypnotizing beat that underscores the emotions she evokes through the song's lyrics.
She hits the ground running on the track, expressing the emotion of a woman ready to leave a situationship. "You don't get that type of luxury / It's not my job to turn a boy to a man," she sings at one point. "Pick up where you left off, I am not the one to be slept on / Made your bed now sleep in that s**t, how it feel without me?" Her sentiments continue on the chorus where she cleverly shows off her yodeling skills while providing a kiss-off of sorts.
"Gotta do better than that or that's just you / I admit you had me for a second or two / But you're too late, you're too late / You're too late, you're too late, ee-ooh," she sings.
The video for the track takes us to the forest as iyla plays a sort of fairy tale character caught in a love triangle between her old flame and current beau. It creatively shows the dilemma of moving on when your heart still loves someone you must leave.
"I wanted '2LATE' to tell the heart-aching story of moving on from a toxic relationship, falling in love with someone new, and having your heart torn in two places at once," Iyla said in a press release. "The music video explores the pain of what that love triangle would look like if all three parties were forced to watch it unfold."
"2LATE" delivers on the sass and the exceptional visuals that we've come to expect from iyla, and we're sure that there's more from where it came. Before she reveals all, get into the stream and video for "2LATE" below.
