SoulBounce Exclusive: Sam Ravenna Pours His Heart & Soul Out On 'Can't Be Replaced'

Sam Ravenna is prepping the release of his new album Fragile later this month. This project follows his self-titled debut EP, which made a splash last year. The singer/songwriter/musician has a lot more to say and share on this upcoming collection where he looks to explore "themes of the fragility and fluid nature of life" and "illustrate his experiences of life lived and loves found and lost" according to a press release. It may sound like heavy stuff, but Ravenna keeps it light on the upbeat song "Can't Be Replaced."

"Can't Be Replaced" is a catchy number about that crazy little thing called being in love. Over a sound bed of guitar, strings and percussion, Sam smoothly croons to the object of his affection. He pours his heart and soul into the chorus, singing, "Don't you know that I would walk a thousand miles / Just to put a smile upon your face / And you know that all the love that we have shared / No one could take your place." He is deep in love and caught up in the rapture of it all, but it's not until the bridge that we realize that he's singing to a lost lover and trying to get her back.

According to Sam, "Can't Be Replaced" takes its cues from legendary artists and a beloved genre of the past. "When I think of some of my favorite recordings and music productions, some of the top artists that come to mind are Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins, Fleetwood Mac...late 70's smooth rock, known now as 'Yacht Rock.' So smooth, so funky, so soulful, so intricate." He even surprised himself when crafting the song. "When I listened to the track the next morning, it dawned on me: without even trying I had made a Yacht Rock tune." Yes, he did and a very good one at that.
