SPZRKT & Sango Hours Spent Loving You [Review][SoundCloud]

Soulection has been consistently bringing us the heat for years. So it’s no surprise that when their MVP producer Sango linked back up with his friend and rising crooner SPZRKT for an EP, we were head over heels in love with what they had to offer. Hours Spent Loving You offered seven tracks that celebrated love in a way that we have rarely ever seen done successfully. While Sango’s signature production played as the foundation, SPZRKT sang songs like “Hipster Girl” and “Soon Enough” to his future bae. But then the duo turned around and in the very same breath sent up heartfelt praises and pleas to God with “How Do You Love Me” and “JMK.”

Beyond the magnificent musicality, which blended elements of jazz and soul with samples and trap drum patterns, SPZRKT & Sango showcased love in a multifaceted way that we would expect from the likes of Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway. Not only that, but they made sure that every second of this effort was sincere and relatable. The EP opened with SPZRKT singing, “Just to make you smile, that’s the motive,” and well, we haven’t stopped smiling since our first listen. -- Rob
