Teedra Moses ClairVoyant [Review][SoundCloud]

Apparently Teedra Moses has no chill whatsoever. She wasn't content to simply bless us with her long-awaited (and stunning) sophomore full-length Cognac & Conversation in 2015. Nope. She had to one-up herself by releasing a killer mixtape called ClairVoyant, consequently slaying us in the process, all so she could celebrate her 40th birthday. And had the nerve to bring fiyah to our screens looking regal, toned and flawless for the album cover. We see you, girl!

We were intrigued by the harmonic intro with a cheeky clip from Breakfast at Tiffany's. But then she slid into "Don't Call No More," a sassy flip of Drake's "Hotline Bling" (arguably the most covered track of 2015), and we were hooked. By the time we got to her Kanye West refix "Flashing Lights," it was a wrap. Ms. Moses comes through on a throwback Mary J. Blige/Fugees/Brownstone mash-up and an emotive Sade cover. But she also flexes on original tracks like "Radio" and "Make It Beautiful." She even brings some hip hop to the table, passing the mic to the Coast Contra collective (her sons Ras Austin and Taj Austin, along with Rio Loz) to close out the album. Giving us a gift like this on her birthday is just another reason we love us some Teedra. -- B. Cakes
