Taylor McFerrin Early Riser [Amazon][iTunes][Google Play]

Taylor McFerrin first popped up on our radar over six years ago with his Broken Vibes EP. Since then, it seemed that Taylor was fine with floating here and there and working on this and that, but he hadn’t delivered the album that many were expecting from him. 2014 changed that when he dropped his long-awaited debut Early Riser. The trippy, avant-garde set continued Taylor’s left-of-center approach to music, with singles like the Nai Palm-featuring “The Antidote” and the sexy, Emily King-featuring track “Decisions,” and collaborations with everyone from Robert Glasper to Thundercat to dear old dad Bobby McFerrin. Needless to say, Early Riser was well worth the six years it spent gestating. -- D-Money
