'Watch' Latasha Lee & The BlackTies Get Down

With her throwback sound, cat-inspired eye liner, tattoos, teased hair and better-off-without-you lyrics, comparisons between newcomer Latasha Lee and the late Amy Winehouse are unavoidable. In fact, Lee's latest offering, "Watch Me Now," sounds like something that Amy might have recorded (if she were black and hailed from Texas, of course). With lines like "I'll be chucking up my deuces, so don't look sad," Lee modernizes an otherwise classic-sounding tune. Backed by her band The BlackTies, Lee kisses off a former love in a way that would make anyone who's ever been wronged rejoice. I'm sure some Winehouse-loyalists may protest that Lee toes the line between flattery and imitation too closely, but Lee fills the void left behind by Amy's untimely passing in a good way. And if she looks familiar to you, then you may recognize her as one of the hopefuls on last season's The X Factor. Although she didn't take home the top prize on the reality show, it's good to see that she dusted herself off and kept it moving, much like she does in this bluesy send-off. Check out her other songs on her ReverbNation artist page.
