Fantasia is having a moment. She’s received rave reviews for her role as Miss Celie in The Color Purple, she’s become a style star on the red carpet with her fierce fashions and she’s a strong contender this awards season. Tasia came into 2024 as the poster child for being booked, busy and blessed. One of those bookings was to sing the National Anthem at the 2024 College Football National Championship this week in Houston.

The big game between the Michigan Wolverines and the Washington Huskies took place on Monday night on ESPN, but the main attraction for us was Fantasia, of course. Before the teams took to the field, the GRAMMY Award winner was introduced by her whole government name – Fantasia Barrino-Taylor, thank you very much – to the audience in the stadium and watching on TV from around the world.

Mrs. Barrino-Taylor is in her purple era, so she wore a stylish lavender ensemble consisting of a fluffy jacket and matching skinny cropped pants. Her face was beat, and her short hairdo was whipped to perfection. As good as she looked, though, she sounded even more spectacular.

Fantasia made light work of the notoriously difficult song that’s tripped up many a singer. Not her, though. Singing a cappella, her golden vocals caressed every note and infused the National Anthem with soul. Tasia added some gospel inflections toward the end of her performance, which was the big bow on top of this musical gift.

She may not have touched the ball or broken a sweat, but congratulations to Fantasia and the Michigan Wolverines for both winning the 2024 CFB National Championship. Watch her soul-stirring performance below.
