Amber Mark has had us under her spell with her original songs for quite some time, but the singer also has a way with covers, too. She’s wowed us with a few classics over the years — including “I Guess The Lord Must Be In New York City,” “Heart-Shaped Box” and even “The Thong Song.” The singer is back at it once again, this time putting her mark on the beloved Bill Withers cut “Lovely Day.”
Amber collaborates with Ryan Tedder, a member of pop-rock outfit OneRepublic and a prolific songwriter and producer in his own right, for the track. He assists the singer in recreating the song’s iconic bass line and melodic arrangement. That just leaves Amber to handle vocal duties, which she does quite beautifully.
Rather than try to take the song to unfamiliar places, Amber keeps it in the soulful pocket as she sings of a day that gets better by the minute thanks to her love. She infuses it with a youthful exuberance that makes it the perfect soundtrack for a sweet summer day.
Speaking of summer soundtracks, the song will also be featured as part of Macy’s “Summer’s Greatest Hits” campaign. It’s currently soundtracking the department store’s latest commercial and Amber Mark will be performing the song during the Macy’s 4th Of July Fireworks show set to air on NBC and Peacock.
