112 Returns To Bring Some '90s Flavor With 'Strawberry'

It's been nearly 20 years since the '90s came to a close, but you wouldn't know it by recent developments in music. A newly reunited Xscape is performing all over the place, Bad Boy Records and Ruff Ryders are responsible for sold-out tours and even Soul For Real has dropped a single and video. As if the decade couldn't come back any harder, now we have former Bad Boy quartet 112 on the comeback trail with the promise of a new album and their seductive new single, "Strawberry."

"Strawberry" shows that not much has changed in the style and chemistry of the group's members — Q. Parker, Slim, Daron Jones and Michael Keith — and, as the old adage goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Like their GRAMMY-nominated banger "Peaches and Cream," the fellas have fruit and love on the brain. This time around, however, rather than making it all about the sex, the song also pays tribute to a woman who's well-rounded and knows what she wants. As they describe to the woman, who keeps that sticky icky in her purse, takes no s**t and likes the spicier side of life, they don't reduce her to her body parts or performance in the bedroom (well, at least until it gets to the chorus), making this a refreshing take on something that could've taken a misogynistic downturn real quick. Production-wise, however, things could be a bit fresher. The thumping, mid-tempo beat is OK, but a little bit of variation would've made this one that much sweeter.

"Strawberry" is lifted from 112's upcoming sixth studio album Q, Mike, Slim, and Daron, which is set to drop later this year. Discover if you like the flavor of "Strawberry" when you press play below.
