Over the weekend, hip hop femcee MC Lyte shared a photo on Instagram that made us raise an eyebrow. Could it be? A musical adaptation of the classic Love Jones? Yes, it's really happening and Love Jones: The Musical is getting a star-laced cast featuring MC Lyte and some of your favorite R&B artists. While we've been waiting at the door for the Love Jones sequel starring original cast members Larenz Tate and Nia Long, it looks like the movie is hopping off the screen and on to a stage near you this fall. Love Jones: The Musical thankfully includes the film's original writer and director Theodore Witcher who had enlisted the help of Marsha Ambrosius, Raheem DeVaughn, Musiq Soulchild, Chrisette Michele and Dave Hollister to bring it back to life. While we're not sure who is playing whom, we at least know all of them can sing.

Love Jones celebrates its 20th anniversary next year, so the musical's convenient timing will help some of us relive the cult-classic and introduce it to a new, younger audience. Taking this musical approach may compliment the film, especially since the original soundtrack packed a soulful punch. It also wouldn't hurt if some of the cast dabbled in spoken word, since Love Jones was the movie that made us all either want to be a spoken word artist or, at the very least, date one.

Any guess as to who might play love interests Darius Lovehall and Nina Mosley? According to MC Lyte, you can get details and VIP privileges when you get her app on Apple or Android phones. Until the stars decide to reveal more, watch the trailer of the original film below to refresh your memory as we hope and pray Love Jones: The Musical will be just as good as its predecessor.
