PJ Morton has made no bones about the fact that he is madly in love with his wife, Kortni. He consistently makes it a point to celebrate her and their gorgeous family publicly in his social media posts. At a time when many R&B singers want to live in the trap or go out of their way to hide their relationship status from fans, it's refreshing to see a man so utterly in love that he has to sing about it -- literally. With his latest song, he is once again singing her praises on the beautiful "First Began." This lush tune is complete with strings and sublime lyrics such as "If I die, I hope to find you in another life."

While the Stevie Wonder comparisons are nothing new, Morton fully submerges himself in the school of Stevie, sounding eerily like him both vocally and production-wise. Not that that's a bad thing. The influences are evidently there but he is still 100% PJ, managing to pay homage while also staying true to his own style. It also speaks to his versatility as an artist. I mean, not many people can call up Stevie, drop a bounce record and maintain a touring schedule as a member of pop-rock band Maroon 5 and have none if it sound contrived. Whatever it is, we are here for every note and key played, especially when it sounds just this sweet. At a time when we need it most, it's great to see that black love and love in general still wins.

If you happen to be in the New Orleans area this upcoming weekend, you can catch PJ Morton in all his musical glory when he hits the stage at this year's ESSENCE Festival as part of the festival's first Money & Power Expo on July 2 at 4 p.m. CST at the Ernest M. Morial Convention Center.
