Teedra Moses has been teasing a proper sophomore album for quite some time, and after a few fits and starts, it seems that she's finally ready to deliver Cognac & Conversations to the public. But first, the refreshingly real songstress drops off a new single to get us ready — or should we say "Get It Right."
"Get It Right" comes just in time for the upcoming summer nights, bringing with it a chill, laid-back groove led off by a few measures of piano before the bass and drums come in something heavy, taking this from ballad to head-nodder in one fell swoop. Lyrically, Teedra is naming off the traits she wants in a potential mate. "Rather have a king than a boss / Rather have a good man than a daddy / Rather ride shotgun in an old school with a cool dude / Than a rich dude acting badly / Gladly," she sings matter-of-factly in her Courvoisier-smooth alto before laying down the law on the chorus: "If you really want it / I mean really, really want it / Then you gon' have to get it right." The smooth groove is definitely one that we can see ourselves coming back to, as it's a classic Teedra track with just a bit of a new twist, exactly how we like her.
Cognac & Conversations is set to be released sometime this year, and with the singer recently inking a deal with Shanachie Records, the chances of us actually getting our hands on the project are pretty good. While we wait on a confirmed release date, tuck into "Get It Right" right here.
