Yaya DaCosta Is 'Your Baby Tonight' In New 'Whitney' Clip

Yaya DaCosta In Whitney

While we have more than enough reason not to trust Lifetime with yet another biopic about an iconic R&B superstar, what little we've seen of the upcoming TV movie Whitney has gotten our hopes up a bit. Raising them even more is the recent clip the network released featuring the film's star, Yaya DaCosta, recording Whitney Houston's 1990 classic "I'm Your Baby Tonight."

Yaya does a convincing job recreating the diva's performance mojo, right down to Nippy's hand gestures and head nods. But equally impressive is Deborah Cox's vocal, which sounds almost exactly like the Whitney original, give or take a few differences throughout. Honestly, the only thing we're questioning here is whether or not those two unfortunately costumed gentlemen in the studio are supposed to be the song's writers Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and Antonio "L.A." Reid (we really hope that isn't the case).

While this clip definitely gives us a lot more hope than anything from that troubled recent Lifetime biopic that we shall not even bother to name, we still reserve our judgment of Whitney for when the film debuts on Lifetime on January 15th. Until then, sneak a peek of this clip and let us know if it stokes your interest in this film.
