We've been head over heels for MNEK for quite some time now, so it's surprising that we would miss any thing that the talented Brit releases. Color us surprised that we, in fact, did miss something a couple weeks back. But seeing as good music has no expiration date, we're bringing this bit of goodness your direction anyway.
"In Your Clouds" finds the 19-year-old once again reminding us of the 1990s. Utilizing warm synths, expertly placed scratches and even including an inspired bit of flute, "In Your Clouds" sounds just like some of the best R&B of the '90s with soulful production that just feels good. There are shades of Ralph Tresvant's grown man anthem "Sensitivity" here along with some of the fun that teenaged '90s stars like Hi-Five and Tevin Campbell injected into the music scene for good measure. Yet somehow with his influences all over his sleeve, MNEK manages to make it all sound wholly original as his rich vocals flow effortlessly over the warm groove.
Summer might be almost over, but this is the perfect jam to ride out the end.
