One of R&B Divas: L.A.'s cast members has dropped new music ahead of the show's forthcoming season premiere. Claudette Ortiz — the notable lone female presence among the ranks of early aughts hit makers City High — has debuted the strong-woman anthem "Automatic."

"It should be automatic that you should love me," she immediately sings, pointing out, "I shouldn't have to tell you to tell me you love me." Indeed, Ortiz is vehement in her declaration. She can be strong by being with her cheating/emotionally distant mate, but decides she doesn't have to be that strong by sticking around. She doesn't care if this man finds another lover who's willing to be by his side — or be his other half on greener grass. And she's damn confident when she belts "I love myself too much, baby."

Still, shreds of vulnerability reveal themselves during the bridge, as a frail-voiced Ortiz laments about him not being by her side. Though the lyrics exude confidence, Claudette embodies the questionable choice she's making, almost foretelling that in the long run it's for the best, but is also painfully aware of how hard parting ways is going to be.

"Automatic" deviates from the storytelling flow Ortiz served up on City High's "Caramel." In its place are more opportunities for vocal play and displays. And the track, produced by Jerry Wonda, is acoustic and organic, driven by a solid drum beat that at times overshadows Claudette's vocals, but is full of flare and offset by a tinge of the tropical. "Automatic" is a serious enough effort that should get listeners in a reminiscent mood, as well as get them wanting more from the singer-turned-reality star.
